Solid-state drive (SSD) technology is becoming increasingly popular within the embedded market. With no moving parts solid-state technology is well suited to harsh environments where temperatures can be as low as -40+deg;C or as high as 70+deg;C. SSDs are extremely resilient against shock and vibration making them an obvious choice over a mechanical hard drive for demanding applications. The EverGreen Plus WT SSD gives you a wide operating temperature increased read and write speeds and an additional built in voltage detector circuit. The detector circuit will identify a drop in voltage caused by a sudden power loss triggering a final data write from the buffer ensuring no data loss.
The integration of this innovative technology with the new Amplicon Impact-E 100/150 series makes a complete compact embedded solution.
The WISE-580x series are intelligent controllers designed for remote logic control and monitoring applications. Every year Team Amplicon support a number of local and national cancer charities. Wig Wednesday a CLIC Sargent initiative is one big day in May when people across the UK unite to raise funds for children and young people with cancer. CLIC Sargent is the leading cancer charity in the UK for children young people and their families.
The Amplicon wig extravaganza was some weeks in the planning and the admin team came up with a day full of fun; we could all pay to look completely barking in fact the 2 directors appearing as Jedward was possibly the high point of the day! Other events were a caption competition where the management team had been photographed in a compromising situation! We even had +lsquo;guess the number of sweeties in a jar along with the chance to buy and eat the most delicious homemade cupcakes!
Joining in with this fun event gave us an opportunity to help a fabulous organisation to deliver support and practical help; and it is worth remembering that being diagnosed with cancer is a frightening experience and every day 10 children in the UK will hear this shocking news.

Amplicon launch of the latest range of industrial managed DSL Ethernet extenders from Moxa. The new IEX-402-SHDSL series provides point-to-point Ethernet extension across existing copper wires.
Legacy 2-wire copper networks such as RS-485 twisted pair cables and voice-grade copper wires are everywhere in industrial environments; DSL Ethernet extenders can leverage these existing copper wires to extend industrial Ethernet networks beyond the 100 metre distance limitation of copper based Ethernet as well as offer high data rate transmission.
The IEX-402-SHDSL series can extend to distances up to 8km and support data rates up to 15.3 Mbps making it a real alternative to costly fibre optic installation. Featuring automatic CO/CPE configuration Link Fault Pass-through (LFP) visualised management and link quality LED indicators the IEX series benefits industrial networks in deployment management and maintenance.
The IEX-402-SHDSL series has been designed for operation in harsh environments; it is enclosed in an IP 30 rated metal housing and can operate in temperature ranges from -40+deg;C to 75+deg;C. The units can be mounted easily on a DIN rail wall/panel or in a rack mount enclosure with the use of a mounting adaptor. They have also been certified to the EN50121-4 standard for using in wayside rail applications.
The Amplicon Measurement and Control division launch the Agilent N9322C 9kHz to 7GHz range benchtop spectrum analyser.
The Agilent N9322C is a benchtop spectrum analyser with a frequency range of 9kHz to 7GHz with 1Hz resolution; specifically designed for cost-constrained applications in R and D manufacturing maintenance education laboratories and bench repair. This unit has many value-added options including a channel scanner tracking generator and time-gated spectrum analysis.
The N9322C has a typical DANL (Displayed Average Noise Level) of -152 dBm for viewing low-level signals. Its +plusmn;0.1-ppm annual aging rate reduces frequency drift for more accurate measurements. The channel scanner measures up to 20 channels simultaneously while the 7-GHz tracking generator with built-in VSWR (Voltage Standing Wave Ratio) bridge supports general-purpose transmission and reflection measurements.
This unit is supplied with the Agilent Power Suite which enables one-button measurement of channel power occupied bandwidth adjacent channel power and spectrum emission mask. The user-definable soft keys provide a quick access to seven of the most frequently used measurement setups making it easy to switch from one task to another. The spectrum analyser demodulation mode can accurately characterise AM FM ASK and FSK signals.
On Saturday 8th June Danny Ditroia one of our industrial computing sales engineers took part in Tough Mudder+reg; probably the toughest event of the planet.
Tough Mudder +reg; events are hardcore 10-12 mile obstacle courses designed by Special Forces to test your all around strength stamina determination and camaraderie.
Danny with 14 other friends joined forces and helped to raise over +pound;1000 for The Clocktower Sanctuary in Brighton a charity dedicated to support homeless young people.

Amplicon have announced the release of the new EDS-405A/408A-PN Industrial grade PROFINET enabled managed Ethernet switches.
The EDS-405A/408A-PN switches are specifically designed for use in PROFINET PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) applications this allows users to directly integrate and manage the switches in a SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system without the need for additional configuration or any modifications. The switches can be directly installed into a new or existing PROFINET network to reduce deployment time; they can also be managed and monitored by SCADA system software such as SIMATIC STEP 7.
The EDS-405A/408A-PN switches support Moxas Turbo Ring and Turbo Chain network redundancy technologies. When a connection failure occurs they enable fast network recovery in under 20ms for high network reliability. These switches also have a very fast booting time of under 10s this ensures system availability and reduces maintenance costs.
Moxa have designed these switches specifically for use in industrial environments; the enclosure is a compact metal IP30 rated case that can be DIN-Rail or wall mounted for easy integration into cabinet installations they can also withstand operation in extreme temperatures ranging from -40+deg;C to +75+deg;C.
The EDS-405A-PN and EDS-408A-PN are available with either 5 or 8 10/100BaseT(X) ports respectively providing sufficient connectivity for a wide range of industrial applications. These switches also support Moxas full suite of management features such as SNMP port mirroring QoS IGMP snooping IEEE 802.1Q VLAN and port-based VLAN.
The Amplicon Measurement and Control division announce the release of the new Agilent 34461A and 34460A benchtop 6+frac12; digits digital multimeters.
The new Agilent 34461A and 34460A DMMs are specifically designed to allow engineers to see measurement data in new ways receive actionable information faster and document their results more easily. These units are designed with the exclusive Truevolt technology that reduces extraneous factors such as noise injected current and input bias current for increased measurement confidence.
The Agilent 34461A DMM is a direct replacement for the industry-standard Agilent 34401A and was designed to make migration easy for current users of the 34401A. The Agilent 34460A offers engineers a basic entry point to the 6+frac12; digit class of DMMs.
Compared with the 34401A DMM the new 34461A offers expanded current ranges from 100 +micro;A to 10 A. Both the 34460A and 34461A have a temperature measurement function (RTD/PT100 thermistor) and expanded diode measurement capability to allow engineers to measure a larger full-scale voltage (5 V) so they can test more diode types including LEDs.
Most DMMs on the market show results on a low-resolution numeric display. With the Agilent Truevolt series there is a 4.3-inch high-resolution colour display to view numerical readings long-term trends (34461A only) measurement histograms and statistical information.
The Truevolt series comes with free DMM utility software that enables users to capture a digitised record log measurements for longer periods under PC control or upload data captured directly from the instrument. Data can also be exported from a single DMM or multiple DMMs with time alignment to popular tools such as Microsoft Excel Microsoft Word and MATLAB.
This series also comes with the DMM mobile utility which can be downloaded from the App Store free of charge to view and control these DMMs from a remote location and receive email alerts when problems occur.
The Division of Engineering and Product Design School of Environment and Technology at the University of Brighton held its annual prize giving event on 22 July 2013 in the Creativity Centre.
This year the Amplicon Jim Hicks Memorial prize was presented by the Amplicon CEO Gina Citroni to Peter Bartram an outstanding student who has just graduated with a first class honours BEng (Hons) in Digital Electronics Computing and Communications. The award was given for his project Wireless Sensor Network with Remote Monitoring.
Peter Bartram commented: +lsquo;I felt very honoured to win the Jim Hicks Memorial Award and I think it is great that a local company is involved in recognising the achievements of students it feels much more meaningful an award coming from within industry. We have great pleasure in announcing that our first intern Marine Entressangle has officially graduated in Marketing from one of the most prestigious marketing universities in France.
Marine joined the Amplicon marketing team for 9 months where she proved to be an excellent pupil and addition to the marketing team +ndash; in fact she was a great favourite with everyone at Amplicon and will be a very hard act to follow!

With small form factor industrial PCs becoming increasingly more popular Amplicon introduce a significant addition to the industrial embedded Impact-E series the Impact-E PCIe.
The Amplicon Impact-E PCIe is the latest addition to the successful Impact-E series. The Impact-E PCIe is a compact fanless embedded system powered by the Intel+reg; Atom+trade; D525 dual-core processor making it ideal for multiple applications that support PCIe.
Pre-fitted with a choice of high-density serial communication cards the new Impact-E PCIe system offers a choice of 4 or 8 COM ports both of which are software configurable to RS232/422/485. This allows for greater flexibility and ease of use meaning the unit no longer needs to be taken apart for dipswitches to be set removing any potential misconfiguration and reducing installation time.
The Impact-E PCIe can also be pre-fitted with Amplicon DAQ cards; PCIe-236 or PCIe-296. These cards offer up to 96 flexible digital I/O channels with a 0 to +50VDC I/O range eliminating the additional cost of expensive signal conditioning equipment.
The Impact-E PCIe offers space for two 2.5+rdquo; hard drives or solid-state drives as well as an optional Compact Flash card. Encased in a fanless aluminium chassis the Impact-E PCIe dissipates heat effectively ensuring smooth operation in the most demanding of industrial environments.
Designed for applications where space is at a premium the Impact-E PCIe has a compact footprint making it ideally suited to multiple markets such as transportation security point of sales laboratory automation and industrial automation.
Amplicon announce the release of a new range of fieldbus gateways the Moxa MGate 4101-MB-PBS series. These innovative converters are used for effortlessly connecting Modbus devices to any PROFIBUS network (e.g. Siemens S400 and S300 PLC networks).
Numerous hours of data-collection and manual address mapping can be eliminated with the MGate 4101s QuickLink feature which automatically configures the gateway within minutes. All models are industrial-grade with a metal housing DIN-Rail mounting and offer internal optical isolation (MGate 4101I-MB-PBS only) for serial signals to meet industrial application demands.
QuickLink technology eliminates the guesswork of device parameter configuration using two unique software features called AutoLearning and AutoMapping. The Amplicon Measurement and Control division announce the release of the Agilent E4980AL precision LCR meter with three cost-effective frequency options: 300 kHz 500 kHz and 1 MHz.
The Agilent E4980AL general-purpose LCR meter provides the best combination of accuracy speed and versatility for incoming inspection of components quality control and laboratory use. This LCR meter can also be used for evaluating LCR components materials and semiconductor devices over a wide range of frequencies (20 Hz to 300 kHz/500 kHz/1 MHz) and test signal levels (100 uV to 2 Vrms 1 uA to 20 mA).
With its built-in comparator the E4980AL can output comparison/decision results for sorting components. By utilising the handler and scanner interface options the E4980AL can be easily combined with a component handler a scanner and a system controller to fully automate component testing sorting and quality-control data processing.
This LCR meter is equipped with a front panel USB memory interface that allows users to quickly and easily save state files measurement log data and display images to an external USB memory device. The 4980AL also comes with a standard GPIB/LAN/USB control interfaces that provide a variety of paths for controlling the instrument.

The Amplicon Measurement and Control division announces the release of the Agilent B2900A series of precision bench-top instruments; with wide voltage/current ranges and superior performance at extremely affordable rates.
The Agilent B2900A series is a compact precision source/measure unit (SMU) featuring up to two-channels with 10 fA/100 nV or 100 fA/100 nV measurement resolution and 210 V 3 A DC/10.5 A pulse source capabilities. This level of performance is typically found in high end semiconductor device analysers. The B2900 also features intuitive GUI to set-up and view I/V curve on the front panel which makes it ideal for semiconductors component and materials testing.
The B2900A series consists of four models the one-channel B2901A and B2911A and the two-channel B2902A and B2912A. These SMUs are further distinguished by capabilities such as the number of displayed digits measurement resolution minimum timing interval and supported view modes; making it easy for customers to select a combination of price and performance that fits their testing needs.
In automated testing the B2900A series delivers excellent accuracy and repeatability with best-in-class measurement speed. These units also have 12 500 readings per second (maximum sweep-operation reading rate source/measure to GPIB) which is double the rate of competitive SMUs on the market.
